BEATS WITH HEART BY CURTIS WATT
BEATS WITH HEART is a spoken word piece written and performed by poet Curtis Watt, reflecting the ethos and narrative of ON RECORD: UNTOLD & RETOLD.
“I was honoured to be asked by Culture Liverpool to perform at the Philharmonic Hall for the ON RECORD event, having co-wrote and presented ‘Who Put The Beat In Merseybeat’ back in the day. It was surreal performing in front of 1500 empty seats and a camera! It was impossible to name everyone but I managed to get some of the main players in there.”
“It’s a bittersweet spotlight on the contributions people can make to the wider culture, yet be overlooked and excluded by many of its beneficiaries. I hope I did justice to our amazing community of black musicians going back to the very first anonymous pioneers.”
