TAYA

Summer Jam, Saturday 22nd July, 13.15 – 13.35, Central Stage, Sefton Park, Liverpool, FREE

Tayá is blessed with a gift: a nuanced vocal talent with the innate ability to convey the full spectrum of human emotions. From love to fear, from joy to despair, Tayá has utmost control at capturing the exact tone to express that experience. It’s a trait that would be remarkable for anyone, but it’s all the more impressive given that the Liverpool-born singer is just 18-years-old.

Tayá has earned unanimous praise from a wide cross-section of tastemakers following a trio of introductory tracks. BEAT Mag described her as ‘the UK’s new dreamy R&B chanteuse of choice’¸ with Wonderland saying ‘Right now though, no one is nailing this sound quite like Tayá’.

It’s no surprise therefore that Tayá’s list of collaborators reads like a who’s who list of the world’s biggest and most influential talent. With a huge list of global R&B hits to his name, multiple-Grammy winner Rodney Jerkins was as obvious choice to help guide her immense promise, while Tayá has formed particularly strong bonds with Diztortion (Tinie Tempah, Sigma) and young singer-songwriter Eyelar (Charli XCX, Sango).

In addition, she has worked with Al Shux (co-writer of Jay-Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’); DJ Khalil (Drake, Eminem); Starsmith (Jess Glynne, Ellie Goulding); innovative Soulection collective producer Sango; Fisticuffs (Miguel, Jhene Aiko); Snakehips (Tinashe, Chance The Rapper) and George Reid of Aluna George. Regardless of the collaborator, Tayá’s character permeates all of her material.

Rewind several years and Tayá hadn’t even entertained the prospect of music as a career. She attended a choir simply to spend time with her friends, but word of her potential spread and a meeting with her now management team, Atlantic Records, eventually resulted in a recording deal.

Her dedication to song writing has reaped some rich rewards. ‘Got Me Wondering’ was the first of her own tracks that Tayá heard on the radio – albeit played back on the iPlayer while working in Los Angeles. ‘Sweet Waste of Time’ and ‘Fingerprints’ only magnified the attention bestowed upon her.

Tayá’s debut ‘Deeper Mixtape’ is due for released imminently, and features a number of exciting new tracks that showcase her vocal and writing talents. She’s also set to present a change of pace with a collaboration on a Redlight production titled ‘Here With Me’.

Her voice is the gift that keeps on giving.
